40 people from Zugarramurdi were tried for witchcraft at the inquisition court in Logroño, mostly women. While prisoners were tortured, six of them were burned and five dead images while prisoners, most of them for refusing to be witches, accused of accepting one of them as a promoter of witchcraft. Another eighteen were acquitted, imposing other penalties such as theft of their property, imprisonment or exile.
