Marriage between two people of the same sex was the first in South America in Argentina. Alex Freyre and José María Di Bello were married in Ushuaia before the country accepted the gay wedding. They were transgressors because a judge in Buenos Aires declared two articles that prevented same-sex marriage unconstitutional, a resolution that was accepted by the governor of the province of Ushuaia. The law that authorized same-sex marriage in Argentina was passed at six months and many South American countries have followed these steps in favor of equality.
