In Santo Domingo, Minerva, Maria Teresa and Patricia Mirabal were killed. They were activists against dictator Trujillo. When they went to visit the husbands of two of their sisters to jail, back, the police prepared an ambush for them as the three sisters went home. Along with the motorist, they were taken to a house kidnapped and beaten to death. The corpses were then introduced into the car and the traffic accident was represented. In memory of this event, the International Day against Violence against Women is celebrated.
