The thumb Pierre Etxeberri was shot by the French army, I. Accusing him of deserting the World War. He was sentenced to death on the war council with another soldier. According to witnesses, on 30 September, when a bus explodes in its trench, Etxeberri fled to the forest. He says he wasn't in the trench at the time of the explosion. He was the first Basque shot by desertion charges, but not the last. According to a letter from the prefect of the Pyrenees, he calculated in his department 812 desertions and 6,444 inputs. He was 25 years old.
