Le Nouvel Observateur and the journal Le Monde published Manifesto 343 by Simone de Beauvoir. In it, the anonymous and famous, bourgeois, writer and artistic women publicly acknowledged abortion, something forbidden. The document called for judgment: "Every year a million women abort in France. They are obliged to do so in secret and do so under dangerous conditions. If performed with medical control, this operation is simple and safe. Millions of women have not been taken into account. I recognize that I am one of them. At the same time, we call for the free use of contraceptives
and freedom of abortion."
