17 May 1982,
Four Kurdish political prisoners were burned to death with newspapers, knees and hand in Amed prison. Among the martyrs for Kurdish freedom are Mahmut Zengin, Eş ref Anyares, Ferhat Kurtay and Necmi Öner. In the 1980s, almost 300 prisoners died in this prison where Turks systematically tortured prisoners. In 2021, Turkey’s President Erdogan proposed turning this prison into a human rights museum, once again disregarding the Kurds.
