The Ertzaintza confronted in Gernika-Lumo the popular wall gathered to prevent the arrest of Jone Amezza. Earlier, Amezaga was hidden for 18 days after the Supreme Court had ratified the 18-month prison sentence, accusing him of “exalting terrorism.” He denounced the police assembly and said that “the government should not do the dirty work of the Government of Spain.”
Hundreds of people met this weekend to protect Amézaga under the motto Jone Libre. Julia Lanas Zamakola, 94, was among those beaten by the Ertzaintza with elongating blades. They broke his wrist and the government said it was part of the protest.
