26 July 1522,
The Spaniards executed in Pamplona the one of Johan Arberoa, the warden or head of the castle of Donibane Garazi. Although in 1512 he supported the conquest of Navarre, in 1521 he joined the legitimate struggle to recover the kingdom and accused him of treason. With the aim of militarily controlling Baja Navarra, the Spaniards besieged the castle of Donibane Garazi and finally managed to defeat it, opening the doors to repression. When Arberoa read the punishment, he said to the crowd that he was not a traitor, but only defended his kings.
