Joanes Zuhigaraitxipi, born in Hendaia, dies. In six years he captured over a hundred Dutch and Spanish boats with the patent of the king of France. He hit so many boats because it was said that from San Juan de Luz to Ziburu you could go by boat without touching the water. In addition to Chipia, Zuhigaraitxipi was known as Kortsario Txipia. He was wounded and killed in a marine battle. His tomb is located in Newfoundland Square.
