02 April 1998,
Durangus Israel Pagaldai dies at age 14. In 1987, at the age of three, he was the first Basque child to be expelled from the centre because he was infected with HIV. The family went to court. Pagaldai was seropositive for her mother's infection and Maria Goretti argued the lack of information about the disease to make a decision. It was agreed and the Government took away the subsidies. Later on, the courts gave the family reason and ruled that one person could not be discriminated against by the HIV virus. It was the first sentence of the Spanish State.
