25 July 1512,
The mayor of Pamplona and several councillors handed over the city to the Duke of Alba, after threatening the destruction of the city by the Castilian people in case of disobedience. The Spanish army consisted of 16,000 armed and artillery soldiers. Faced with this, about 8,000 inhabitants of Pamplona could do little. Therefore, the Duke of Alba imposed himself with his best soldiers through the door of San Lorenzo, with music of trumpets and timbals, spreading fear among many of the Navarros.
