In Lumbier's foz, the Civil Guard executed two ethnic groups and another seriously wounded, according to the main tests. Jon Lizarralde, Susana Arrangi and German Rubenach, from ETA's Navarra command, met with a Civil Guard patrol, and when they realized they were ethnic, the sergeant was shot dead. The civilian guards were warned and with a major operation, including the helicopter, they closed the two entrances of the canyon. For long hours the eaves were tortured – Lizarralde had water from the Irati River in his lungs – and the following morning Lizarralde and Arrangi executed in cold blood. Rubenach was found with a head shot and survived. The Interior Ministry said they committed suicide, but changed the official version several times and closed the case without investigation.
