King Louis XVI destroyed the outbreaks of the continental Basque Country. Meeting in Paris, the assembly was presided over by the atmosphere of the disturbances of the French Revolution. They abolished the feudal system and abolished the forces that were the instrument of the sovereignty of the Basques. On a cultural level, it caused a great cataclysm by the dissolution of the popular assemblies and social organization. Lapurdi, Nafarroa Beherea and Zuberoa joined the Pyrenees Atlantiques department by adopting the new Constitution. The political representatives of the continental Basque country faced in vain. Attacks on Euskera were continuous and, among others, prohibited children from speaking in Euskera at school, with physical and psychological sanctions.
