28 November 1575,
Miguel Zubiri and María Johan were executed with garrote in Pamplona, accused of witchcraft. Before they died, their hair was cut and their bodies burned after death. Based on the statements of two Annozibar children, there were several arrests accused of “participating in the Akelarres of the people”. Of the four main detainees, the other two died in prison.
The Anozibar process was a civil process, not led by the Inquisition courts, but under the responsibility of the Royal Council of Navarra.
In Euskal Herria, from the first executions of the documented inquisition (1329) to the last (1610), between 200 and 323 people died. Many more women died than men.
