17 September 1931,
The members of the Basque Youth of Bilbao who were in Larrinaga prison celebrated the first hunger strike in the history of Euskal Herria. It was a protest against a government order. Without charge against a detainee, and even after 72 hours of legal time, the Government decided that the detainee could remain in detention, even with a judicial sentence of liberty.
Many people joined the protest and the prison director resigned. Two days after the hunger strike, the prisoners were released.
