Referendum on the Statute of Autonomy of the Basque Country in Álava, Bizkaia and Gipuzkoa. Two years earlier, after the failure of the attempt to create a unified political framework for the four countries of Hego Euskal Herria with the Estella Statute of 1931, which the Spanish Republic left without validity for the weight given to the Church arguing that it clashed with the new constitution. In the 1933 text the Catholic Church had less weight, but the Navarros traditionalists classified it as secular and excluded Navarra. Moreover, the newly arrived right to the Spanish Government rejected the project. Many women voted for the first time in this referendum and adopted majority status.
