19 November 1969,
General strike for the right to housing in Italy. Housing became a problem for workers, especially as many of those who moved from the rural to the industrial centre of Milan found excessive rents and poor housing. In this strike, the workers wanted to change their power relations, even outside factories. The strike was very successful in Milan and, under undiluted conditions, a police officer died in the midst of tear gas. The political right took advantage of this fact to criminalise the protests.
