The Pact on Regional or Minority Languages enters into force. It was adopted by the European Commission in 1992. The Spanish State signed and ratified it in 2001, but the French State does not ratify the written pact in order to guarantee linguistic rights. In March 2022, 49 peoples of the Northern Basque Country signed the European Local Minority Language Pact, a special version of the Minority Language Pact.
