Eli Gallastegi Gudari dies in San Juan de Luz. He was a nationalist writer, journalist and politician.
Born in Bilbao, a militant of the PNV at the time he split twice in 1921, he promoted the independence line Aberri. In 1933 he promoted the independence journalist Jagi-Jagi. After gathering the currents of the PNV, considering that the party took the autonomous trend, it abandoned it.
When the 1936 war broke out, he defended with Luis Arana and Cándido Saseta that the conflict should be exploited to achieve the independence of the Basque Country.
He was subsequently exiled in Mexico, Ireland and the French State. In 1958 he returned to Euskal North Herria.
