28 July 1936,
In San Sebastian, the militiamen operated at the Loyola headquarters after ten days of fighting. After the coup d ' état of 18 July, the military at the Loiola barracks tried to catch the city, but did not succeed. At first they were fortified in the City Hall, in the Nautico and in the Hotel María Cristina, but they were thrown backwards. The occupation of the Loiola barracks before reaching the city by the Carlists from Navarra was vital and their weapons were especially appreciated by the members of the popular front.
