Nineteen members of the MST movement of Landless Rural Workers in Brazil were killed and 70 were injured by the police. The day before, 1,100 homeless people traveled to the city of Belém, occupying the road in Eldorado do Carajás. The governor ordered a police operation. According to the expert report, ten of the deaths were killed by very close gunfire and seven by white-gun injuries. Since then, this day is the International Day of Peasant Struggle.
