10 November 1959,
In the convent of Iralabarri of Bilbao the clandestine ikastola was closed to study in Basque. An education inspector found out and sent a report to the civilian governor. In it he requested the immediate closure of the ikastola, since it had been created illegally and was taught only in Euskera, “with a clear separatist orientation”. In addition, two teachers were arrested and questioned about the functioning of the school and the origin of the books. They had heavy fines. Clandestine, they continued teaching in Euskera.
