The footballer Agustín Gómez Pagola was born in Errenteria. He was one of the children who was sent to the USSR during the 1936 War. Torpedo from Moscow stood on the football team reaching the Soviet team. In 1956 he was signed by the Atlético de Madrid and when he retired, when he returned to the Basque Country, he worked in the restructuring of the Communist Party of the Basque Country.
He was arrested and tortured by Francoist police in 1961. He was also an agent of KGB. He died in Moscow in 1975.
