In the US, Assata Shakurre fled jail. He was a former member of the Black Panther Party and a militant of the Black Liberation Army. He was sentenced without evidence for murder and tortured in prison. He always defended his innocence. He fled to Cuba, where he accepted political asylum.
"I saw the escape from jail as a step, not only because I was innocent, but because I knew that with the racist legal system in the United States I was not going to have justice," he added.
40 years later, in 2013, the FBI and the State of New Jersey offered a $2 million payout for the Shakur hunter.
