Abando's neighbours joined the Begoña in the riot called Zamakolada. From the Bizkaia Armero they took rifles and some 200 people came to Bilbao and locked several members of the deputation. At the proposal of politician Simon Bernardo Zamakola, Gernika’s boards have just approved the deployment of military service in Bizkaia for the Spanish army. In return, the king of Spain accepted the construction of the port in Bilbao. It extended to the peoples around the uprising and called for new General Meetings to reject the decision. The rebellion, which lasted until 21 September, concealing Zamakola in Navarra, sent the Spanish army to Bilbao to denounce the protest. The following year, the courts sentenced 384 Biscayan men, who were sentenced to financial fines, to wounded, to prison and to compulsorily go to the Spanish army.
