There are three knots that complicate our coexistence in the Basques, and for many years, despite our patience and determination, we are unable to break free from these ties. There are at least three knots of the moment: prisoners, Basque, immigrants.

With the new year we are meeting thousands in Bilbao, citizens, friends, friends, travel companions and supporters from all over the Basque Country and even further afield, asking the State to release the Basque political prisoners and refugees once and for all and to demand peaceful and free coexistence. But in this march, we will also have to return next year. Because the various powers, authorities and governments of the Spanish State do not want to untie the prisoner’s knot completely. The Basque who wants to get something from us will have to dance to the music of our government, they calculate from Madrid. And so it goes for years and decades without being able to put an end to the prisoner knot.

The second knot is Spanish. Because of the worse situation in the Franco regime, the descendants have at least given us bilingualism, and that is where we Basques want and can’t learn but can’t use it, co-official here but not there, and always forced into Spanish and French, instead of seeing with pain and sorrow the Basque language that belongs to us and, nevertheless, surrendering to the dictates of the States, always damaging our homes.

The situation regarding immigrants is the third knot. Welcome to our home, refugees, poor, punished, rejected, condemned on earth. That's our feeling. Seeking to offer a proper reception, to respectfully preserve their identities and to open their hands to unite in our nationality. But our home is not ours, we cannot govern our home, and from the state, once again, they take advantage of it by trying to drown the identities of both immigrants and Basques in the mud of their mother country.

With the passing of the old year and the arrival of the new one, the Basques cannot continue to be mortified in those knots connected between the two states. We ourselves must expand and consolidate coexistence at home, sharpen our own strategy that leads to sovereignty, freedom and peace. We saw in the strong demonstration in Bilbao that it is possible to achieve unity among citizens in the Basque Country itself, as well as to achieve international solidarity.

The Basques must unite the local parties, trade unions, institutions and popular organizations and put them in agreement on the basic national objectives, because we are one North and South, Navarre and Bizkaia, Zubero and Lapurdi, Araba and Gipuzkoa, Basque Country. With clear objectives, move forward without complexes in the national sphere. We must not go back on the basic elements, the Basque prisoners are political prisoners, in the same way that the conflict is political, and we must channel solutions through democratic political channels. We need our own system of justice, based more on integration in punishment; to develop our own culture, language, identity, to cultivate our own history and collective memory, to offer a democratic structure to the Basque nation and to develop our own future.

The Basques are capable, in our own dimensions, of doing all this in an excellent way, even with knowledge and qualification more appropriate than those of Madrid and Paris.

We need to acquire sovereignty in all these areas starting from this 2025 and untie the knots.
