In Bilbao, I worked for five years with groups at risk of exclusion around the digital divide, especially with women. Along the way, I came across machistan violence and many other problems. In a very organic way, I began to relate to myself and to understand the work of the agents who worked with women victims of male violence. One of the responsibilities of the agents was the control that the aggressors exerted on the lives of the victims, spreading to the digital world and devices. Therefore, one of the objectives was the technological empowerment of women. But there are so many needs of these women, living in a situation of permanent threat, that the educators turned them into secretaries of them, in health issues, of their children, in legal issues ...
Male violence suffers at the different levels of our societies and has many casuistics. Although it is the most visible of women at risk of exclusion, there are also many who suffer the researcher in the laboratory, politicians in social networks, students in the university... Perhaps the latter can give a respite in the digital realm to find information about digital self-defense, to understand that they are not alone, to reflect on what has happened to others, to adopt measures adapted to their condition and emotional situation. But many women will not reach those contents, they will not have the resources to build solutions themselves. The oppression they receive is so great, that what their digital environment offers them is very small. The work being done in the digital arena on self-defence and digital struggle is not going to reach them. We have to bring knowledge closer to their worlds. We will have to further stimulate the imagination to influence a violent digital world that tramples on so many women.
