Unfortunately, we are well separated from travelling and migrating. In the case of migrations, the process does not end either when reaching the intended locality, or when obtaining permission to reside in another town, it can take many years of their lives, decades, until they can live a real new beginning of a place. These kinds of decisions are made out of despair. And spying on that despair, there are always those who see a business opportunity.
Without a network, without resources, trying to understand some cultures and behaviors that you find strange, linked to the need to make decisions, to change an unsustainable life, anyone can be very vulnerable. And unfortunately there are many heartless in the world, always ready to deprive the most vulnerable of their minimal expression.
The biggest problems come from not taking the time needed to verify the information received. We turn our attention down when what has given us the information is the nearby network. Access to trust networks is the most effective strategy for spreading misinformation, fraud and manipulation. In addition, today, the calm conversations with which the relationship is maintained have been replaced by rapid communication, and with digitalization the dynamics has increased: we share information, but we do not take much time to talk and think about it. In the migratory process, dynamics emerge that help spread fraud when relatives disseminate unverified information. Some examples: “expert” service that asks for a big payment to get an appointment through bot, the offer of Coyotes services that do not guarantee the end of the trip on the Uber platform (carriers that introduce migrants illegally to a country), the publication of fraudulent rents that require advances in platforms dedicated to the purchase of housing, fake job offers... The Internet is a space full of mines for migrants.
