The trio created in Bilbao has little meaning in the name. Moreover, the participants’ journeys have been developed and modified. Marga Alday is known for being one of the creators of Moonshakers; and Jordi Vila has a very long career: He has been part of the groups La Broma de Satan, Black Hearts and Angryman, among others, with sticks in his hand. And the last participant in this power trio is Mikel G. Mancho, in addition to a great designer, has played the guitar in punk groups like The Vibrators.
Kinki Boys was born in 2018 at the initiative of Marga and Jordi, and gradually, meeting the guitarist, they began to write and record their songs. The early work was inspired by the dirty rock-and-roll that is in the DNA of the group components, but they wanted to go further, from the sinister and the atmosphere and theme of after punk. Ana Curra, the Usher and much more have been present in the basket.
However, since Mikel joined, they have managed to give their songs another shine. I would say they have invented jumping to other coordinates and making their songs more special and personal; and although they operate in the broad umbrella of the post punk, what was more sinister now is more multiple. The latest work, his fifth, The Wonderland, is an example of this: The metaphorical rhyme, witness of her day to day, opens a transparent but penetrating guitar like Magazine's, and we love Marga's firm, almost rocky voice; by then the playful rhythms of Vila and Mikel turn her into an elegant and sticky track song of Illegal. Denso and aereo has a more dancing touch; it reminds me of The Cult, and in the choruses to the cadence of Godfathers, British; but it also has after punk, tribal rimas and the pseudo-electronic touch. In Atrapado they return to their roots, with half-tempores and rock acidity, delving into the blues rock. And finally, The Wonderland is a catcher, a game of whispering and obscene reflection.
