The ABAO 2023/2024 season ends with the title always awaited by the public. One of Puccini's masterpieces is an opera that, despite having heard a thousand times, always arouses intense feelings. Furthermore, on this occasion we have been able to enjoy first-line soloists, who have turned representation into a real pleasure.
But, in addition to all this, I was particularly pleased with a third element: the staging has been a classic version, situated at its original time and without unnecessary distortions. Somewhere I have read that this version has been suitable for a very classic audience, but perhaps it has not been very stimulating for viewers with a wider knowledge. I would say just the opposite. Those of us who have seen a thousand distortions in the opera to approach those who have apparently had no relationship with the opera; those of us who have seen the almodovariate the opera, all respect to the director, we have to return to classicism, to simplicity, to the original essence that at the time the author of the music and the
author of the libreto.En this occasion we have seen and heard a
Bohème that took up the original idea of the Undoubtedly, the star of the night has been Miren Urbieta-Vega. Donostiarra Soprano has mastered Mimi's character well. His voice is beautiful timbre, powerful and elegantly broadcast. It has been a pleasure to hear soprano, perfect in all records. It's had wonderful moments. My child Mimi stands out. At all times, however, it has given a very good level.
Also, the Canarian tenor Celso Albelo has proven to have an excellent voice that adapts perfectly to the Puccinese characters. Her aria has been the pleasure of the manina Che gelida, as well as the duo she has interpreted along with Mimi, as the fanciulla O soave. Albelo has excellent acute and great safety in singing. It's a safe value, no doubt.
The rest of the soloists have given a good level. The soprano Marina Monó has made an elegant and promising Musetta. Baritone Manel Esteve has demonstrated a balanced voice and a great capacity of actors. José Manuel Díaz, David Lagares, Fernando Lator and Aitor Garitano have also shown an excellent level.
And the Bilbao Symphony Orchestra has played a good role. Perhaps the ones marked by Pedro Halffter were slower than usual in Tempi, but it has not diminished the beauty of the whole and perhaps gave it a more delicate and sentimental aspect. I liked it.
When we talk about French composers, we think of Claude Debussy and Ravel. There are those who have fun defending one or the other as the best French composer of all time. Frankly, two geniuses have been absolute, as a result of the circumstances of their time. They were a very... [+]
