Can you buy everything?
Today there are many apps to buy friends: The best known are AlquiFriend and Ameego, which seem to work very well, especially in the big cities of the United States. They have about 600,000 users. Pay 120 dollars to someone and for a couple of hours you go to the restaurant you want to buy or walk around. The jokes you make are enthusiastically laughing and will pay a lot of attention to all the things you say. Company to be with you without discussions or disagreements. You will be the master and owner of your friend!
Because the market wants to turn anything into an object and make it available to us. But is it possible? Is there anything outside the market claws, inaccessible?
Perhaps the commodification of current life confuses two different things: buying something, owning it and being resonant with something. And they don't match. Advertisers want to predict the resonance of goods, sell us experiences. But it's possible that I buy the most expensive seats for a concert and that the concert doesn't make me excited, doesn't tell me anything. It is not possible to plan “Today I will get excited!”, “I have purchased tickets for the concert and I have the right to have the corresponding experience! How hasn’t the ass of the hen put on me after paying so much?”
To the extent that today’s society wants to put everything within reach and take ownership of everything, it moves us further and further away from the joy of living. Blunt contradiction!
This is the contradiction studied by thinker Hartmont-Rosa in the beautiful Inaccessible essay. The book begins with a reflection on the snowfall: “Remember how you lived the first snowfall when you were a child?” Snow suddenly visited us, was fleeting, weird, transformed the world without our intervention, a kind of unexpected gift. And in that encounter with the inaccessible resides the experience of life. What is the writer's hypothesis? To the extent that today’s society wants to put everything within its reach and take ownership of everything, it moves us further and further away from the joy of living. Blunt contradiction! But the truth is, the logic of property or resonance is very different.
Resonance, however, is not a concept of the world, but a musical relationship with the world... Nowadays, on the contrary, music tends to be placed everywhere: in the supermarket, in the waiting room or in the elevator. Sign that things have stopped singing? Have we cut their wings and stopped being birds? Remembering Rilke's words: I like to hear the song of things, but I buy things and they stay dead.
