I am not clear how collective consciousness is understood; in this pillar I understand it as a time when most people in society have a shared understanding of a reality. For example, we all understand the importance of having a home in order to have a dignified life, we all understand the importance of a good diet to grow healthy…
Well, I think that a certain collective awareness is also spreading in relation to business models in the digital arena and their possible negative impact on our lives. Most people understand that they are continuously monitored for their online activity. They understand that as a result of the searches carried out they will receive advertising and automated recommendations, they understand that by accepting cookies, their data will often be shared with the many “partners” of this website. However, it is not very clear how to act. Creative content is meant to earn a living and to do so they have different business models, including digital surveillance.
Some social networks are at the tip of the iceberg system for digital surveillance, and data goes to them, like rivers go to the sea. Based on a study conducted by Consumer Reports on the web The Markup (Who shares your information with Facebook, Who shares your information with Facebook), they shared data of interest, including 709 volunteers who, according to data obtained in the last three years of their Facebook file (available in this link), sent data to Facebook from an average of 2,230 companies.
Research may be very simple, but it's interesting to understand the dynamics of social media business models and the sense of our collective consciousness. Now, with that awareness, to gradually improve, we'll have to also think about the digital tools we use.
