As Clèmentine Beauvais says in her preamble, Dussutour speaks in this book of being born and making a girl. The phrase, which from feminism we have taken to Beauvoir, takes all its meaning in the book, shows us some tricks that the heteropatriarchal capitalist system has (yes, this time I wanted to put it whole with all the fat words) in different communities of the world: taboos, impositions, tradition, beliefs, power... We can also see women's strategies for dealing with it. Therefore, besides generating anger and anger, the book awakens hope and tenderness, and the illusion of continuing to dream of a better life.
The author selects five locations and five characters from around the world today to discuss the consequences of the birth of the woman and the side effects. Kaneila of Nepal, Euskal Herriko Elaia, Mahnoosh of Afghanistan, Makena of Kenya and Luisa of Mexico have two chapters. All chapters have the same structure (made up of two parts): first, each character will give their first-person testimony. At the beginning of the testimony, the protagonists tell the hardest situation and in the end a gap opens to hope. Next, the part that the author has called "documentation" begins: the meanings of some words are clarified, some questions are answered and some data are provided.
Both paragraphs are illustrated. It consists of striking colors, eye-catching and attractive views. I think the use of colors is pretty flat, but they do their job. Some images will help texts and others will occupy the entire page. In this case I thought they were more suggestive.
In conclusion, the author’s title and the additional documentation and bibliography of each chapter can be found: associations, films, known characters, books, days, etc.
Although its reading is simple, it is not a light experience. More than entertaining, because it's an information book that can function as an encyclopedia. It is a material that can be read jointly by adults and children and young people, at school, at home or in reading groups. I think it can do a lot.
