We have created a special monographic journal. That is also the case. In the quiet of our house we are seeing almost directly how genocide is being done. At the moment, no sanction and normal. The Basque and European governments and the media dependent on them are justifying the attack on an entire people in the name of the “right to defend Israel”. Those of us who form ARGIA have felt the need to raise our voices. We don't want to be that complicit.
Journalists have a great responsibility to ensure that citizens know and understand what is happening in Palestine. And in the face of such a massacre, we do not want to give up our professional and ethical responsibility. We have said this on several occasions: we are not neutral. How can we be neutral in the face of genocide? That's why we've created this monographic issue, in the face of this injustice that is crushing the foundations and the shame of the whole world, because we don't want to be part of the problem, but of the just solution.
It is not
war, it is genocide. And less between Israel and Hamas.
Gaza is no longer the world's largest open air jail. It is now an area of concentration, massacre and forced displacement of 2.3 million people. The Israeli army has killed over 14,000 Palestinians for a month and a half, of whom 40 per cent are children. And there are many more bodies wounded, traumatized or shot down.
Talking about war is a false linguistic and political framework. Standing up as a bilateral lawsuit, it revictimizes the real victim and keeps the hand of the genocidal in the shadow.
Arnon Soffer, a Zionist geographer who designed the Gaza blockade, clearly indicated the objective of his plan in 2007: “We will make these animals even more animals.” 16 years later, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallante uses the same argument: “We fight human animals and we will act with them.” They also want to eliminate humanity, turning the Palestinian into an animal, so that it is then another death toll. The task of these media is not to naturalize these hate speech, and to denounce the authors with names and surnames.
The bombing of
the population as a collective punishment, the forced mass displacement, the interruption of food, water and electricity... are war crimes, as stated in the sixth point of the Rome Statute. And therefore, those responsible, led by Benjamin Netanyahu, must be brought to the international criminal court for trial for crimes against humanity.
Nothing can justify such a massacre, not even the 'fight against terrorism' mandate that we Basques have known and suffered perfectly. Let us not forget that this argument was used in the Iraqi invasion to justify the murder of hundreds of thousands of people. The attack by the Palestinian armed resistance on 7 October cannot be used as an excuse. Europe cannot continue to look away at the massacre of an entire population that has been locked up, besieged and occupied for decades. Whether we like it or not, history has shown us that where injustice is rooted there will always be resistance.
The problem of Palestinian occupation is European. Europe stole its land from the Palestinians and donated it to the Zionist institutions. It was then that Europe first approved the Jews as “Europeans”: as they became a population of the Middle East. It has since protected and armed the occupying force for 75 years and has offered impunity for any abuse. The solution must therefore also come from Europe. At a time when we are increasingly talking about decolority, Palestine also needs a decolonization process in which international solidarity, support and assistance are essential.
We are not neutral Palestine is often compared with South Africa, dependent on apartheid, because the systematic exclusion of Palestinians and Blacks is similar, and citizens’ tools to deal with these unfair systems: protecting
resistance and promoting boycotts and sanctions against the genocidal state.
The words of Desmond Tutu, who lived and fought apartheid on his skin, are very topical: "If you're neutral to injustice, it's because you've decided to be in favor of the oppressor." We ARGIA members are clear about where we write. Palestine and Israel are occupied and occupying, marginalized and privileged, resilient and agresores.El journalism
should be an activity of understanding, transformation and improvement of the world. Independent journalism has nothing to do with the uncritical extension of the arguments of the powerful or with the collection of the arguments of the “two parties”. These are times of courage and that is why we have created a special magazine to better understand the Palestinian resistance and the occupation of Israel. So that the Basques and the Basques who advocate a just solution based on decolonization, justice and equality in Palestine have another support.
We will not be part of the propaganda of genocide. In ARGIA we will not justify or justify the genocide of Israel. Not on our behalf. Stop genocide.
