Lartitegui:J. C.
For short stories, Bilbao, 2023
-------------------------------------------------------------
This book is a unique book with various levels of reading. Taking into account the work The Temptation or El Barco de los Locos, written at the end of the 15th century, and the works of illustrators of the time, Lartitegui created a magnificent work for children and adults.
The kid who comes to this book will see an absurd story of humor. From a history of a tomato plant, the child will enjoy unusual situations and the fantastic, surreal and humorous elements that appear in the images. And that is that when a young man takes a tomato plant and puts a writing on it (when the Tomato reaches the thirteen units, what counts disappears suddenly), a strange and funny trip begins around this tomato plant.
But, at the same time, the most mature reader will enjoy the exits of a child so energetic that he lived in the city of the Tents and, with them, the references that the author makes to illustrators of the 15th and 16th centuries. Jerónimo Bosch (The Bosco), Desprez, Pietre Brueghel...
All the images in the book cover the two pages and perfectly reflect the atmosphere of five or six centuries ago, but in addition the images add value to the text, reflecting the absurdity, the criticism of refrain, the humor of absurd events and satire. In spite of all this, Lartitegui uses several elements of the new albums to guide the mobility of the actions and the reader's plastic reading, such as the repeated presence of the same character from left to right indicating the dynamism of the actions.
We have said that this book is unique and unique. It's a way to make a lot of readings, and beyond the humor that history has, you can go through nice moments looking for the satirical, surreal, humorous elements that appear in the images.
In addition, if someone wants to delve into all of them, they have a QR code at the beginning and several clues at the end of the book… to keep playing.
