Torches of ocracy
Not the power of the people, but of the multitude, not the government of the people, but of the mass. Octocracy is said to be a system that prefers torches rather than litigation. Society that lives passionately private scandals and public experiences.
The term was created by the historian Polybio 2,200 years ago to explain his political theories, not excessively optimistic. From that moment on, an adaptation to the time, some have cyclically warned of the danger of octocracy. In the 21st century, the revival of the concept is related to the global screen.
Times, lynching, is one of the main features and even tools of octocracy. In this sense, even in the irrational digital age, the torches of the masses are on. Always in the name of a noble cause. But the Lastargi wave does not accommodate narration, arguments or evidence. At the other end of critical thinking (algorithms) is ocracy. But the thrill of fast and high positioning is so strong…
I do not know what Polibio thinks about our democracy. Perhaps, seeing that the ancients are new, I would return to the time tunnel. Where I would see more people than anywhere.
