Misleading syndrome
That you are where you don’t deserve it, that in your accomplishments chance has a lot of margin or doesn’t give the level… These kinds of experiences are behind the scamming syndrome. And we women suffer greatly, even in university classrooms. That is the conclusion of a research work I just read.
I do not agree, however, that in the classrooms there is less female participation, that there is talk in a shorter space or that “I believe”, “is my opinion”, and this tells us insecurity, but that respect for the others we have inherited in the process of socialization and the consequences of collaborative communication. Doubt, fear or, worse, the readings of weakness appear only from an androcentric view. And we women have internalized them.
Therefore, when a colleague told me that he was publicly inviting to speak in class to encourage the participation of women, I replied that this increased the pressure on them, because the nervousness added to the fear of not responding to the professor's expectations. Instead, it is the teachers’ responsibility to take positive reinforcement measures, because we are aware that fraud is not theirs.
