They pray to us and say that he is a Sirimiri. Because Bilbao BBK Live cannot be understood as such. In the same pack travel Mediateka BBK, BBK Kuna, BBK Sala, BBkatea at the Museum of Fine Arts, Bilbao Bizkaia Pride, BBK Klima, BBK Ja! The Bilbao Prize, the white card BBK, the Bilbao Prize and the list is infinite. They say it's a Sirimiri, but it's actually a waterboarding.
Jon Urzelai tells us, among others, of BBK Live in his book His Holidays. Susa has published his work, since the Zarauztarra publishing house has a collection of essays, beyond literary heterodoxy. She tells us about BBK Live because Urzelai talks about 21st century Euskal Herria music festivals, and the breadth of our musical scene. For in the book we will also find keys to understanding a more complete map of Basque culture.
I myself have been looking at the whole BBK package. It cannot be forgotten that Kutxabank, which includes the BBK, was one of the most evicted in the 2008 crisis and sold defaulting mortgages to vulture funds. We must not forget that Kutxabank is one of the centers of the company and the revolving doors for the political, business and financial caste. With one hand they curb extreme precariousness and with the other they spiral culture to sell it to expensive targets (cheaper for tourists).
Urzelai also gives the reverse to these festivals and explores with self-management those who work at the center of creation and the community base. Not everything is monoculture of tourism, gentrification and real estate speculation. The festival model becomes one of the battlefields to decide which Basque country we want.
It can oppose the model being imposed: the neoliberal logic of majority cultural expropriation and capitalist accumulation of minorities. Libraries, literature, rooms, music, museums, arts, popular movements: they mark the entire cultural realm with urine, they impregnate us like a Sirimiri and drown us like a waterboarding. Against: occupation and self-management.
