I just did. I have signed and forwarded a citizen’s claim to the Regional Renewable Energy Plan of the Autonomous Community of the Basque Country, supporting the initiative of the Euskal Herria Bizirik platform. The platform closely monitors infrastructure and macro-projects to measure their impact on rural areas. And the new document being prepared by the Basque Government, which analyses the possible locations of wind farms and solar installations, says that it is serious because it opens up the possibility of finding possible locations.
Concerns have been raised about the arrival of wind turbines. In Azpeitia and Zestoa a major popular mobilization is underway and the Alavese parks of Azazazeta, Arkamo, Iturrieta, Labraza and Aramaio have raised the banks. And more will come. European funds have set a direction for wind farms and solar installations, and the installation of wind farms seems unstoppable. How can we combine the path of renewable energy with the path of agriculture and livestock that is already in great difficulty? What is the impact of this “clean” energy that will move mainly to cities?
I subscribe to the argument because on the subject of renewable energy we have not opened debate as a territory and the new urban document defines a model: that of large-scale installations. How much energy do we need and how do we calculate while maintaining current demand? Has the self-consumption of energy communities in neighborhoods been studied enough? It has been said that the proximity of the wind power plant allows public management and the democratization of energy, but if it clashes with the protection of the countryside and the environment, how does the equation be solved? How is the acceptable impact defined?
