A few years ago, a friend shared with me several thoughts related to digitalisation and care. This is an experienced woman, who has very internalized behaviors for a good life that her being in the world will cause the least injury. We're talking about healthy digital use: as we've learned to feed ourselves well, why not work healthy usage as we build alternative digital spaces? My answer was pretty rigid. “I know what it is to eat well and I know what the benefits of doing sport are, but I feed badly and I don’t do sport.” I couldn't see it easy to get through space from knowledge to doing things. Not in my life.
Today, the space of knowing how to do things is not so difficult, as care gains more weight in my life. We cannot think that everything is “not knowing” and “not understanding”, but that the person does not have the situation or the desire to make change.
That said, I get in touch with an interesting project developed by the Transfeminist Digital Care Network https://pratododia.org. On this website, the authors use the analogy of food to internalize the idea of digital self-defense. And in order for our digital mission to produce the least damage and the greatest benefits in our lives, they share a number of recipes. In the menu you can find: cleaning and organization as is important in the kitchen, so we can clean our footprint on social networks, taking care of our privacy. There are fundamental foods, internet security is fundamental. It tastes your life with lots of ingredients, that's what you'll find in the ugly: accessible options that ensure privacy and security. Etc.
It is a nice guide to start using the digital space in a healthy way, which allows us to gradually acquire, depending on your possibilities and desires, to make a healthier life.
