Feeding
There will soon be municipal elections and the candidates will be drafting programmes for the peoples. Most will refer to building and urbanization projects in a traditional way.
Less will be devoted to the use of environmental resources and the structuring of Community networks for their management, but they will be the most interesting.
The pandemic, the climate and the events of recent years have made us see the need to change our goals and lifestyles. People have every chance to implement this change of thinking. Thus, food is a topic to raise.
The food policy of our region has culminated in the opening between Barakaldo and Sestao of the multinational Costco, dedicated to the sale of food in large packages. Thus, together with the macrosupermarkets that we had before, our environment will be the region that consumes the most processed foods in the Basque Country. However, no city hall here has feeding areas.
There are, however, realities that remain on the sidelines:
–Between the industrial roads or in the river ravine for decades, with plastic drums and veneer slugs, the orchards were created by those who came from outside to live. In order to convey the importance of food, it is necessary to collect the relationship with the land of the people who came from rural villages abroad and those who lived before here.
It is necessary to teach the population biological planting techniques, value horticulture and create tools to respond to the needs collectively from the region.

–In school canteens, the desire to offer a healthy and close food without chemistry is increasing among parents. It is necessary to analyze the ways to carry it out and put the means in place.
A 2020 study says that healthy eating would save 20% of health spending. European cities are studying how to create food in them to combat the collapse of the future. Here there is still land and municipalities have the capacity to generate initiatives in the aforementioned lines. It is therefore time to address the issue of food and to open up new avenues. Or do we ignore the issue and leave our food to the multinationals four more years?
