The Lizardi Prize, organised by the City of Zarautz, awards every two years a book aimed at the children’s audience. Last year Yolanda Arrieta won the prize for the written story and in this sense we are presented with the guarantee of the jury.
As he approaches the book, the edition draws attention. Enrique Morente's illustrations are fanciful, in pastel colors and directed to small readers. The text is full of word games. From the index at the beginning of the book to the inner text (all paragraphs ranging from zero to seventeen are made with rhyme: Zero, the crazy world and Bat: from mouse parrat to Hamazpi: hazi, bizi, ikasi).
Mimi and the twin sisters Loa are the protagonists of the story together with Mari Gonagorri. They both see a note from the mouse in the square, they can't keep working, and they won't get milk teeth or more chickens. This provokes the surprise of the twins, but soon he gets to pick up the hooks and give Mari Gonagari a gift in a car (“Geta garrez, beti gorri, Eguzki ala euri, nik beti ondo! Pick up the tics and give your teeth away, what do you want you to bring!”). The sisters travel to the house of Mari Gonagorri, where they will know the magical world of this, the territory of desires, the mill of desires... and the mood pump corresponding to each desire.
Fantasy, play, word games and imagination appear in the history of Arrieta. It is also divided into eighteen short chapters, most of them two or three pages, and the numerous interviews and the large images of Morente help to read.
This is a story that is quickly and quickly read, in this sense, this work that won the Lizardi prize. I'm entertaining and imaginative. There may be an abusive use of colors in some words, but it may also be your pleasure. Anyway, it is a book to play with words, to get closer to poetics… of fantasy and knowledge of the world, maybe while we talk about philosophy with a point.
