When we talk about artificial intelligence, coupled with the adjective “artificial”, something comes to mind that is not about human beings or humanity. Artificial intelligence has been created by human beings and embraces fears, desires, ideas -- so it seems that some artificial intelligences that we have today tend to be excluded. This debate has been present in society for a long time, but has resurfaced in recent months. The reason is the behavior of artificial intelligences based on biometric data.
We know that artificial intelligences feed on data and the results are implicit in data. If in a village all people who cannot read live on a street, for example, an artificial understanding aimed at optimizing job selection can learn to reject the curricula of that street, which has learned that there is little chance of success. So people on this street will always have trouble finding work in every system where this artificial intelligence is deployed.
The same applies to biometric data. A biometric fact is skin color: in many parts of the world dark skin is the biometric trait associated with social disadvantages, a social situation in which there are more problems in life. The agents of the Gender Shades project have investigated that the contents that come from social networks to dark-skinned people are contents associated with a lower sociocultural level.
Artificial intelligence seems to be an effective tool for the maintenance and transformation of social behaviors, provided that it is implemented in systems. We may, without being aware, be within certain systems.
