There were few options to see My friend's friend (Zaida Carmona, 2022), because this independent production has premiered in very few cinemas. For a week he has been exposed in a single room throughout Bizkaia. The audiovisual world has spoken thousands of times about the loving relationships between human beings and most have been narrated from a romantic perspective. But the curiosity that aroused me from the personal view that director Zaida Carmona had to offer in his first long work, even following the recommendations of a good friend, encouraged me to see her.
The movie starts with the end of a romance. It couldn't be otherwise. From there I found myself in an unusual romantic comedy. Most of the actors are friends of the director and the locations are their usual meeting places in Barcelona. This feature that should provide freshness has taken me out of the movie at various times. Many times the conversations and interpretations between the characters seem to me excessively crude. A naif notes the atmosphere at the time and a half of the film and the sporadic moments of humor have not been enough to enjoy the film.
The virtues of the film, or those that have interested me, have been other. The film explores the multiple ways of loving and relating through affective sex between women who cross. Thus, along with the deficiencies of romantic love, the director has put on the table gaps and errors in other relationships. It has been shown that these other forms of love with different labels (polymericity, relational anarchy…) have been totally absorbed by the dynamics of capitalism and consumerism. Carmona relates Zaida to the precariousness in which we live this fast, cold consumption of bodies. Our lifestyle and our work, or our absence, cross and condition our relationships. Affective responsibility, respect and lack of balance shine in most of the relationships that appear in this work. The director denounces that the death of romantic love, despite the so-called liberation, has led us to continue to be condemned to the usual evils.
I leave the movies with a sour sweet taste. The movie hasn't satisfied my appetite. In addition to the shortcomings of the film itself, it is discouraging that there are no models outside romantic love and that human consumption has completely ingested the forms of relationship jabetzea.Gizartea is reflected in our bodies and their relationships, even when sex is outside the equation. If there are modes and paths, they must exist. As with all the liberations we must make, we must create them every day.
Edurne Azkarate said from the micro stage that the Basque film has little Basque in the celebration of the San Sebastian Film Festival. The phrase echoes for its truthfulness. In the architecture scene you can repeat the same motto and I am sure that in so many other cultural... [+]
