Children, Furgón or Master
I have been around for a long time, but so far I have not dared to put myself on paper. Most of all, my fear is to fly and think that I am dumb or envious to the people that are considered mentioned. Since I do not believe that any of this is true, and I take part in the fact that the caricaturization of certain situations and a point of satire can make rigorous criticism more pleasant and dignified, there is my reflection.
The trio of the headline is not casual, it is composed of three elements that I believe define the vital moment of a generation that is also mine. After the age of 30, with the complex expectations of the future on an emotional, climatic and economic level, we have been rushed to find individual solutions to collective problems. Very few people in my environment have chosen one of these three options: children, van or master.
In the first case, the profile is that of a person with a more stable employment and economic situation and a relationship of partner with a given trajectory. Certainly, the existence of children considerably alters people’s lives, but the general trend I have found is not the socialization of growth, beyond the traditional family model that most of us have known. On the contrary, the new family nucleus absorbs all the attention and is in the background – being generous – the ties that have until then accompanied the parents.
Maybe we wanted to eat the world and we'll end up eating mucus, accepting lives we don't dream of.
The second element outlines a contradiction with a model of capitalist society that we supposedly hated. Buy a camper to spend fuel and reach places away from our stressed and productive routine. That is, a model of consumption of experiences and places, with an ecofriendly and sustainable aspect, supposedly within the reach of all the public, but which is merely marketing to calm the awareness of fact. This profile is starred by couples who are at an early stage of child growth or, failing that, disappointed people with romantic love, and although before or after they will try again, they now need an escape valve.
Finally, we would have a good option from the Master's Degree, normally reserved for single and single drifters. It's not just any master's, it's professors. Of course, the majority decides to pay more than 6,000 euros in any private university, not because they have enough money, but because in the faculty bar we have spent too many hours and the average degree of career is not enough for the places offered in the public. Fourteen pay, two thousand euros per month and two months of vacation. If it does not have a pedagogical vocation, it will put it on the road to a desirable stability that has been denied us.
And of course, with this panorama, I already know the separated parents, towards the scrapping of the used vans, and the teachers who took over the curricular reconstruction. And I can't help it, this phrase that I was told as a child usually last in my head: "It will happen to you when you're a rebel." Maybe we wanted to eat the world, and we'll end up eating mucus, accepting lives we don't dream of. The truth is that at the moment I have only discarded one of those three paths that we seem to have to shape.
