The discovery of X-rays in modern architecture had a great influence, says Beatriz Colomina, architect and academic at Princeton on his recent visit to Tabakalera in San Sebastian. This concrete report shows the relationship between medicine and architecture, since the demands of medicine for the habitability of spaces –ventilation, natural lighting– have been key in the development of design. When the X-rays were first socialized, the image obtained by the new technology, formed by a mysterious cloudy spot around the bone and skeleton, was attractive to the society of the time and its use was generalized, an X-ray of its hand anywhere, just as today we do a photograph – later the damage that X-rays can cause in the body became known.
The radical exposition of the body created by X-rays gave rise to a more conceptual fascination in architecture. Through technology, intimate, invisible and very private organs became public. Buildings have been devices to defend the privacy arena, so the possibility of putting the interior of the building in the eyes of everyone was a great revolution. The buildings, with transparent walls, started to come up with the desire to get the effect of X-rays. It exploded the desire to look inside, to show everything in the eyes of others. And that is when the first “transparent houses” of history were built as a portrait of the intimate. The interior of the house was open in view of the stranger, imitating an X-ray. In other buildings, the skeleton and the skin metaphor began to be used, forming part of the exterior.
While science supports the visibility of the test and organizes our thinking the science logosa, invisibility ignites a great mystery and invisibility continues to revolutionize the dimension of the spectacular.

Vicent Andrés Estellés poetaren hitzak harturik, bat naiz hainbat eta hainbat kasuren artean, eta ez kasu bakan, arraro edo ezohiko bat. Zoritxarrez, ez. Hainbaten artean, bat. Zehazki, Europako Kontseiluaren arabera, eta ibilbide handiko beste erakunde batzuen... [+]
The housing problem is a structural problem that comes from far away. What should be a human right is nothing more than a subjective right. I say that it is a fraud because, although all the institutions and all the political parties say nice words, they do not grasp the... [+]

There are those who say that elections serve only to give legal status to political decisions. And there are not very many who think that way. Okay, but with that, a lot of things are said, among other things, that real power, power, is out of that game.
But, in my view,... [+]

Five decades later, we seem to be leaving behind the Washington Consensus. The climate crisis and, above all, the rise of China have reinvented the interest in leadership and the active participation that the country should have in the economy. The former austerity managers,... [+]
