The Rosetta stone that enabled the decipherment of hieroglyphic writing has been at the British Museum in London since 1802. Recently a group of Egyptian archaeologists has asked the museum to return the stone to Egypt and has received thousands of signatures and accessions.
In the words of Monica Hanna, dean of the Faculty of Archaeology of Aswán, the purpose of the petition is “to explain what has taken away the Egyptians. I'm sure that the Rosetta stone and all the objects they brought will be returned one day, because the ethical code of museums is changing. The question is when it will happen.”
