A month ago, on January 16, 2022, Peru Iparragirre published an interesting article: Old books in Basque: new readers? He highlighted the regrettable truths: that our ancient literature, especially the one we consider classic, is not more affordable, should be accessible in a unified and standardized way, in an adapted way, that is, that young generations do not have the opportunity to drink from the old source. I very much agree with this vision: just as the main cultures do, we should also reedit our classics with a didactic and critical presentation as juicy as it is attractive.

I especially remember the oldest writings, the few fragments that have come to us since the Middle Ages, those of the Renaissance and those of the neoclassical era, because it means those of the 19th century. These texts are even more distant, more inaccessible and incomprehensible to most people today, including those who study. In Bizkitarte they form ours and we should not have rice.

Seeing, moreover, that the texts of those times are scarce, we should also publish literary works of other European languages in Basque, so that those who are not hungry can place the old Basque literature in a broad literary stream.

The project carried out by the Athenaeum Navarro and the Booktegi digital platform last year is therefore to be welcomed: In 1559 Margarita de Navarra wrote Heptamerona translating into Euskera for free dissemination on the net. This work was created by Margarita, following the model of Decamerona de Boccaccio, where travelers are in a convent of the Pyrenees, Cauterets, for a rapid storm that has broken the media. Characters should be watching for a bridge to be rebuilt and spend time telling stories between two masses. Walkers of different ages, men and women, propose to guess pleasant and funny stories. In total, 72 stories are read like this in Heptamerona, spread over seven days, and the writer left his work unthought.

Margarita de Navarra François I. She was the sister of the king of France, friend of espos Enrique de Navarra II.aren. She had two children. Joana de Albret became the queen of Navarra and Henry IV was king of Navarre and France. She was a wise and refined woman, famous patrons. He supported writers who produced innovative writings, such as Rabelais or Bonaventure des Périers.

The Athenaeum Navarro and the Booktegi project appeared at the time of evicting the house we just met. They would like to publish one day a year. The stories of the first day were presented in October 2021 at the Concierge of Pamplona, while those of the second day will be fully audible in Amaiur on October 29. Anyone can point to reading.

A good symbol is to organize the event on the occasion of the 500th anniversary of the Battle of Amaiur. But this Basque translation of Heptamerona is worth dedicating itself to a more general recovery plan for classics. Not for the Basques to obey a moral conscience, but for them to light up with the enjoyment of the previous aesthetic.
