In recent months, articles and news about cars, electric cars, public transport or the use of bicycles in the media are common. Many regulations already provide for the need for electrical units to charge the car in car parks. The fact of going to school by bicycle, advised by pediatricians, has begun to spread the need to create a network of cycling routes. The number of deaths due to air pollution from cars is published. In many places it has been possible to reduce the number of cars on the streets by claiming private garage to the owner of the car. Aid for public transport in energy crises has been agreed and announced before the beginning of the course. We are seeing more situations where street parking becomes urban gardens. New traffic models are being implemented to turn centres into pedestrians.
Something is moving when the focus is on transportation. It looks like we're at the beginning of the cooking process, when you hear the onion in the pan and the sparks. The components of what comes are placed on the work table, lack of cooking.
Notes for skeptics. Just like we did the cities and the streets for the car -- about 80 years ago, radically changing the urban landscape -- we're now going to adapt the streets to other modes of transport, making room for electric devices of logistics distribution, skateboards, different bicycle models, bus lines. For this, the alternative mobility network should be convenient and fast. The city will be a success when people are offered the possibility of living without a car and the rich use public transport. The reality – and the refrain – that the car gives us freedom is today, but in the chip shift it will be liberating to live without the need for a car. Getting out of the car bubble opens up an interesting map with new space needs, a different life organization and a more prepared mindset to be closer to the environment.
