The summer of this year is demonstrating that climate change will adversely affect both our lives and those of generations to come. It is very reasonable to have a point of fear for the future, but I often wonder to what extent our concerns are not the result of catastrophic movies and series that we have all swallowed, because dystopia is the only way we have to imagine the future, we have it free. In a healthier culture than ours, the series would talk about local food production, sustainable cities, the end of male violence and income distribution (beautiful series Towards the Utopia of the News these days). Being radical in these times is not making despair credible, but making hope possible.
Justice is an attractive idea, but I think we need to move from ideological abstraction to political and concrete level. How much should we reduce CO2 emissions by 2030? What steps should organizations take to save energy? What are our proposals for housing, transport or employment? What and how many sectors are to be reduced? What do we propose for workers who are unemployed? And about the leisure model, what do you say?
Economic relocation, basic agricultural income or materials recycling plants are appropriate examples. Faced with consumerism and increased life, libraries can be inspiring, promoting public property of objects and community use.
Even if you're small, you have to succeed in the environmentalism that you have to have for most. To believe in oneself and to delude many. To do this, it is essential to overcome the imaginary of middle class/man/white/adult/boring/militant librarian. For my part, welcome new winds.
Among many other things, we have to build an environmental movement that will organize blockages in the coming years, general climate strikes, occupations of large soils and infrastructures, energy communities... And, of course, we will have to take from the centers of power a three-letter party friend of the oil oligarks...VOX no, the other. First, the CAPV Climate Change Act that is expected for this legislature is an opportunity that we cannot miss. And how do we deal with the fossil lobby from EH? I am not clear, but Repsol deserves a powerful boycott campaign.
To reflect on all this, see the weekend of September 30 to the eco-championships of the Gaztetxe de Portugalete, passion for struggle and joy!
